It's my birthday I can spin if I want to
So even though my assistant called out sick today, I received like 200 samples that needed to be checked in, had over 100 emails, and had like the busiest day at work ever, I still took a break to go to Spin at lunch. It’s Monday. I love this spin class. Missing it would put off my entire week. Plus I didn’t work out Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. So I needed to get in the gym. No...

Weekend in Review
This weekend was awesome despite the super lame snowstorm! Friday - went to Pulquiera which in all my time hunting down secret bars and restaurants was the MOST difficult restaurant to find EVER. Anyway, finally found it and met up with the girls to celebrate H’s birthday. I would say the food was maybe a 6, but the company was a 10! The churros were a nice touch for dessert though: ...

An open letter to New York
Dear New York, My birthday is on Monday. Yes, Halloween. When my amazing husband asked me what I wanted this year I said to ride huge roller-coasters at Fright Fest at Six Flags Great Adventure. I bet you thought I would pick handbags and jewelry - but no, not this girl. I like adventure! Now, it is like 38 degrees out right now, and supposed to SNOW tomorrow. I am sure you must have me...

Thursday Paralysis
It’s been so long since I wrote this post! Finally! MFT and I are back in action! Recently MFT got another certification - I am not exactly sure which one since he has like 80, but he learned a lot at this one about correcting your body. For example, on his blog his most recent post talks about how when you have crap form the wrong muscles are compensating. I was in a car accident when I...

Wednesday Workout
Wednesday’s are tough for me. I never like to lift as I don’t want to be sore for Thursday Paralysis. I recently started going to MFT’s early morning boot camp which is a killer - but could not get out of bed yesterday. I tried, but like almost fell over I was so tired. I knew if I went to the gym like that I would have a half ass workout, which would mean getting yelled at a lot...

When Reality Strikes
This morning I dragged myself out of bed to go on my first run since the race. I had a total New York moment when I was running before sunrise on the West Side Highway. It was gorgeous out this morning. I was looking at the lights from New Jersey sparkle on the Hudson River - totally enjoying the moment and being in the city - until a FAMILY OF RATS RAN ACROSS MY PATH. So that happened. Anyway...

Back In The Saddle
I worked out today for the first time since my race - so the first time in 8 days. I can’t remember the last time I took a full 8 days off - maybe my honeymoon a little over two years ago? Anyway it felt great to hop on the bike for spin today. It was all about intervals - there were just a few long uphills but mostly it was sets of jumps or intervals that really get your heart rate up....

San Francisco In Review
The trip to San Francisco was awesome! We had the best time ever, despite not 1 but 2 baby earthquakes! Marathon was great as I have said in a previous post. After all that training, it’s sort of weird that it is over. My group of college besties (sans Em who is in DC) live in San Francisco. To take a week to hang with them was literally beyond amazing. Monday: We relaxed and spent time...

Race Recap
San Francisco Nike Women’s Half Marathon is done! Some points to note: 1) My official time was 2:20:31. 10 minutes faster than my goal time!! 2) The hills either weren’t as hard as I expected, or I was more prepared than I thought. Not sure which one but either way I will take it! 3) they let the walkers out at the same time so I was bobbing and weaving through the first 5 miles....

Substitute Teachers = NOT THE SAME
So MFT is getting yet another certification this week, so he is out. This is good because I was going to cancel Thursday Paralysis this week as I don’t want to be sore for my race! Anyway, Wed mornings I take MFT’s hour long boot-camp/sports conditioning class. It’s killer (I have posted about it before here and here). So today even though I knew there was a sub (we call him...

Last Nights GTS
Last night was my last Tuesday GTS! Sort of sad, and sort of happy, you know? Anyway - we met at 7 and mostly talked about the race - some course advice from the coaches (based on the major hills at 6 and 8) and they answered all our questions. Apparently at mile 12 there is the Ghirardelli Mile - which means they are giving out Ghiraradelli chocolate during the half marathon! Crazy! The...

Extreeme Dieting
So one of our IT guys has decided to lose weight. He apparently does this twice a year every year. He STARVES himself. Literally. Anywhere from 30 - 40 days. Starves as in NO FOOD at all. All he has is water. Not kidding. And once a week salt water to “flush” his system. This has to be like the worst thing I have ever heard. I am totally worried that he is going to keel over any...

Spin
Spin today was great as usual - I didn’t push myself the hardest ever because I want to make sure I am rested and not sore all week to prepare for Sunday. I still had a kick ass workout but I wasn’t dying like I usually am. While we were in a 3 minute climb my mind was wandering to something MFT always says. I might not do enough strength training. I was watching myself in the mirror...

Weekend in Review
Last weekend before the race - I tried to rest up! Friday - was still feeling under the weather so stayed in and relaxed all night. Left work early, and just hung out all night. Was amazing to rest that much! Saturday - had my last final Saturday GTS! We did an easy 6 miles, 1 loop around the park. While running we saw Kelly Ripa who is the smallest human ever. But I will say even Harlem...

Last long-ish run!
6 miles done! It’s my last Saturday GTS, and my last distance run before the race. I was running with S and T today, and I was telling them the first time I ever ran 8 miles, that night I went out and I swear I had like RLS or something. I couldn’t get comfortable and I was so sore the next day. It used to exhaust me so much I would have to take a nap after practice! But now I say...

Blind Item
When I was in high school I was a cheerleader. (judge me if you will) Practice was after school so we had to kill time since none of us had a 6th period, and we had to wait until practice started. One day as per the usual we all walk to the liquor store to buy some candy/soda/water/etc before practice. C is outside on the pay phone (I am old - this was before every 5 year old had a cell) calling...
