Hi Anon-
A hamstring tear totally blows! I tore my hammy running - I had a high hamstring tear right under my tush.
It took me about 3 weeks to realize that something was really wrong and go to the Dr - and he diagnosed me right away without an MRI and gave me a script for Physical Therapy. I wasn’t on crutches, I just limped around a lot - crutches in New York would be harder to deal with than limping everywhere!
I was in PT 2x a week for about 2.5 months, then down to 1x a week for 6 weeks, then every other week prob 2 more times. All in 4ish-5 months. She was amazing and realized that I tore it not only high, but also on the side. This would have all been found on an MRI and my healing would have been faster. Make sure you get an MRI so this doesn’t happen to you!
I ran a half marathon later that year, so once you heal, you are totally fine. But if it’s already been 5 months and you aren’t better I would for sure check back with your Dr. - and make sure they give you an MRI so you don’t “discover” a 2nd tear like I did, and have to start the rehab for that tear all over at the beginning.
Good luck!
