So I missed Spin on Monday since I was stuck in a meeting (hate when work interferes with my work out!!) anyway so I decided to take spin today. MFT’s bestie teaches the class and no offense to him - it’s good but not as good as my Monday teacher at the other gym. It’s just okay. But I figured that it would be better than anything I would do on my own since I wasn’t super motivated today. I was motivated to go to the gym, just not especially energetic, you know?
So I went - and I don’t know if he ate his Wheaties or what today, but class was ABSURD. Like crazy tension from the beginning where you feel almost as if you were riding through deep mud. Your quads burn, your bootie burns, your hammies burn. After only 30 minutes half blinded from sweat in my eyes, I basically lost steam. I got it back, but it was that hard. After I took my own 2 minute recovery or so, I focused my mind on getting my act together and was able to finish strong.
Spin is such an amazing workout - I am so happy I went! And super surprised at how difficult it turned out to be!
Today I went to spin - I was excited, it was my first time in a few weeks. I forgot my reusable bottle I take running with me, so I figured I would buy a water bottle at the gym. Both vending machines were out of order.
So I did this super hard spin class with no water.
I didn’t realize how much I depend on water. I need it. I get too parched without it. So here I am about 20 minutes in spinning away, DYING. I still had to muscle through the rest of the class, but had a hard time without my water.
I felt like I would give my class a B-. Not my best performance - but still a passing grade. I got a decent workout, but I needed that water to go the extra step. I just literally didn’t have it in me to really pump up the resistance and kick my own booty.
Next time I will buy water before I go, just in case the gym is out again.
(As you can tell I go to the ghetto gym. Apparently. What gym has no water??)
Went to spin today - it was great! haygirlhay would have loved it because for the entire class he played Britney Mash-Ups!
As always the class killed me, it was fantastic. I truly love this teacher. He has so many various combination’s every week, it’s never the same class. It’s sort of how I define a good trainer/gym teacher - anyone can come up with one good shtick. But someone that changes their routine or class every week, and still manages to kick your booty keeps you engaged and paying attention - and coming back! Spin is such a great workout, I recommend everyone trying to squeeze in one spin class a week for a change up to your normal routine!
The weird thing was that the class was like packed - not 1 bike open. Usually class is about 70% full. So I don’t know how word got out, but I am going to have to start getting there early to secure my spot!
I worked out today for the first time since my race - so the first time in 8 days.
I can’t remember the last time I took a full 8 days off - maybe my honeymoon a little over two years ago?
Anyway it felt great to hop on the bike for spin today. It was all about intervals - there were just a few long uphills but mostly it was sets of jumps or intervals that really get your heart rate up. I really feel lethargic and unhealthy when I don’t work out. In one week I was convinced that I was more bloated, had gained weight, and lost tone. I know maybe 90% of this is in my head, but it just goes to show how fitness is as much mental as it is physical (at least for me).
I had some aches and pains, left over from taking time off and the race, but boy did it feel good to sweat! I pushed myself as hard as I could and really had a great workout. I am so happy to be back to my regular routine!
Not sure if tomorrow I am going to go to MFT’s boot-camp at lunch that I used to go to - or if I am going to run on my own before work. It’s weird to not have GTS tomorrow night. I like don’t know how to workout on a Tuesday on my own anymore. So weird!
Here is to at least 5 days in the gym this week!
My regular Spin teacher - R - was out today. So we had a sub named Nikki. She seemed docile enough when I walked in, to the point where I wondered if I should walk out and work out on my own. But I stayed.
Okay first off, when she introduced herself she was so quiet I could barely hear here - and I was sitting in the front row in the center (yes I am one of those).
Then she starts the music.
Then she starts SCREAMING and SINGING and PUMPING HER ARMS, and YELLING AT TOP VOLUME, and basically terrifying me.
She walked up to everyone and was yelling at you to go faster or harder like 1” from your face. Like crazy stressful, where if you didn’t she would start SCREAMING at you. I am so not kidding. It was so scary!
Her method wasn’t enjoyable, but made me have the hardest spin workout I have ever had in my life. By far.
Can’t really feel my legs right now, but can safely say I undid a little of the damage I did this weekend.
Wow. Scary. Awesome.
It’s Monday - get after it!
After eating all the things this weekend, I needed to get to spin and burn it off. I should rephrase, I didn’t eat all the things, I ate all the candy and all the gin. Ahem.
So I went to spin, which is always good, but it wasn’t fantastic. It wasn’t quite as hard as it normally is, and I had my tension up and was working hard. But the instructor just didn’t make it as hard as usual. Disappointing. Although I am glad he was scaring me and screaming like the sub last week!
I am going to try to eat really healthy for the next three days in preparation for all the debauchery that will take place on Thursday night! Ah!
Tomorrow’s MFT’s last Tuesday bootcamp, hopefully he tries to basically kill us!
Short week this week - get after it now to prepare for the holiday!
I haven’t been to spin in quite some time - first I was crazed at work, then we had off the Monday’s for Christmas and New Years. I don’t know if the class was so hard because I haven’t been, or the teacher wanted to kick our booty’s in the new year or a combo of both.
Either way it was the best spin class I have taken in ages! I feel fantastic!
Once again I got my form corrected - when in the seat you really have to put your arms way out, this not only makes your back straighten up, but it also takes the load off your upper body where it shouldn’t be at all and puts in back in your legs which is the point. When you have correct form, you do feel it so much more, it really dramatically improves your workout.
Anyway it was so hard and I’m glad it’s done. I love to start out my week with a killer workout, I feel like it sets the tone for the rest of my workouts for the week.
It’s Monday - put the work in!
I went to spinning today with mixed feelings. On one had it’s a kick ass workout and I over-run so even though it’s working similar muscles in my head it’s different and it’s a good idea to take a day off running. However I met someone this weekend who was talking about slow twitch vs fast twitch muscles and now I don’t know what to do. She said spin could make my legs BIGGER which is the one thing I am trying to avoid here. I immediately upon hearing this emailed MFT who basically said this girl is full of it and then reminded me that you can’t spot train and proceeded to give me some facts on muscles and what not.
Anyway I truly like spin, and really like the instructor so I still went. I had a great workout and was feeling so energized I ran upstairs and did obliques (3 sets of 17 using 15lbs weights) and the captains chair (3 sets of 10 with straight legs).
Was a great workout - it’s Monday so start your week strong!
I was so excited to go to spin today. I ate bad food all weekend and drank my weight in champagne gin PBR booze. I was excited to try and sweat some of it out!
It was a great class - the teacher is so awesome - he changes it up constantly. Today was all about intervals. Climbing intervals, sprinting intervals, it was so great.
I don’t know if I was working harder than normal, or if it was just hotter in there than usual, but I was sweating so much there was like a little puddle next to the bike when I got off (the things that make me proud!)
I feel great and am happy my Monday workout is done! It’s Monday - start your week strong!
I knew I wouldn’t be able to go to the gym at lunch today - so I woke up early to work out at the gym in my building. Literally 65% of all the equipment in there has a sign on it saying “parts are ordered and will be up and working soon” So since Monday’s I usually do spin, and one of the bikes was actually working, I figured I would give it a shot.
I have taken spin regularly for like 10 years. I was able to bang out a 45 minute ride which ended up being 12.16 miles. I was sure to keep my RPM above 85 the entire time no matter how steep the hill I was climbing. I varied my resistance to simulate class - where you bring your heart rate up and down for maximum calorie burn.
After I finished my ride, I was super sweaty just like class and my legs felt totally rubbery! It was an awesome workout!
Sticking with my resolution to do at least a little abs every time I am at the gym I did 3 sets of 20 Russian Twists holding a 10lb med ball.
Feel totally ready to take on my Monday! Beginning of the week - start strong!
I got a text from my coworker K this morning at like 7:45am that said “I signed us up for spin today, since we didn’t go yesterday”. I thought it was so sweet, I didn’t have the heart to tell her I did my own personal spin class yesterday.
So I went to spin today - MFT’s bestie was the teacher. When K and I walked in, he said the class was going to be a bit of a recovery class - when K and I both immediately were like NO! Make it super hard! We are going to be eating a lot tonight! So he was like okay.
Be careful what you ask for.
This was hands down one of the hardest spin classes I have ever taken. There weren’t so many jumps, but the entire class had MEGA resistance on the bike. Plus we were doing constant sprints. With the tension on! Like sprinting through foot deep mud! AH! I am going to be so sore tomorrow, every inch of my hammies and my glutes were on fire. It was amazing!
It’s Tuesday - go burn off all the candy/chocolate calories you will be consuming today!
I am lucky enough to have a job that allows me the flexibility to run to the gym at lunch. I usually work out for an hour or maybe 45 minutes if it’s a crazy day. I ALWAYS TAKE A SHOWER AT THE GYM AFTER I WORK OUT. ALWAYS. Unless I am heading home after, in which case I would shower there. I might not wash my hair if I have to run back to the office, but I ALWAYS soap up and rinse off.
However, I took a kick ass spin class today (he was playing Linkin Park which made me work even harder since the music was so awesome) an I was sweating up a storm. After class I went upstairs and did the Captain’s Chair for 3 sets of 10 sticking to my resolution to do at least 1 exercise for abs every single day I go to the gym. Anyway I go to the locker room after the change to get in the shower and I see a girl that takes bootcamp Wednesday’s once in a while. We are friendly so I was chatting with her. She then changes out of her sweaty clothes (she took spin too) into her work clothes! NO SHOWER!
I don’t understand how you can sweat so much (she looked even sweatier than I was) and then just wipe off with a towel and not shower! It’s so unsanitary! I can’t handle it. She is so sweet, but now I am totally judging her!!
Please please please shower after you get super sweaty - if not for yourself, for the benefit of everyone around you.
Today’s Spin Class was a “recovery run”.
Now in my head when I hear “recovery” I think “easy” or at least “easier”. According to our spin teacher Kareem, this means super hard. Class was insane.
Basically it’s a class where you get no actual recovery and use active recovery to get you though the class. So you are always working. You end up fighting through every push/pull but feeling strong and tired. It’s literally harder than any spin class I have ever taken - and every time I take this class it’s the same, which is near impossible.
So I asked after class, since there are only 2 more weeks of “recovery” then we are going to start Endurance Riding, that means in two weeks it’s going to get even harder? He was like yup.
Oh boy.
I hope I can make it through!
It’s Tuesday, keep the beginning of your week strong!

I finished yesterday! I did 150 before spin class, and 150 after - and am done! 6,000 kettle bell swings in 23 days! Challenge complete!
I thought that I would never make it, based on how sore I was in the beginning but it just got easier and easier the stronger I got!
So awesome!
