Last night I was lucky enough to go see Hugh Jackman Back On Broadway. B got us THIRD ROW tickets for my birthday!
THIRD ROW!!!!!
This was one of the best shows I have ever seen. I didn’t know what to expect from a one man show. But I can tell you this blew every expectation I had out of the water. Hugh talked about everything and anything in his life - personal anecdotes from his life about his kids, his wife, his father, stories about filming movies, hosting the Oscars, stories about Australia and the Aborigine people, his favorite songs, his favorite musicals, everything.
He is so beyond talented, he is an amazing singer, and entertainer and kept us engaged and laughing the entire time.
He even brought up some random guy from the audience to dance with him - it was hilarious!
At the end of the show somehow an older man with a cane crept on the stage - security was right behind him, but Hugh said no let him stay, and had a conversation with this guy about serving in the Australian army in front of us all. Instead of freaking out that this guy got past security, he just went with it.
It was two hours long and was so entertaining and fun, and the best part was that Hugh looked like he was having the time of his life, ad libbing, laughing, and smiling.
It was so great, I want to see it again and again.

Tonight I went to see Seminar on Broadway - starring
Professor SnapeAlan Rickman, andthe fat kid from Stand By MeJerry O’Connor, Lily Rabe, Hamish Linklater, and Hettienne Park.It was EXCELLENT!
I didn’t have a lot of expectations as opening night was last night, and the times gave it such a long review I didn’t read it completely. (Hey I was at work and it was busy) Alan Rickman was grumpy, dark, brooding, and so so so perfect in his role as the English Teacher to these four aspiring writers/students.
O’Connell was (who used to work out at my gym btw) also perfect in his uppity, over achiever, spoiled, eager to please-ness. The rest of the cast was hilarious and their timing was perfect. They were totally believable, and it was actually super funny. You could relate a little bit to each character, and it left me wondering what would happen next.
I thoroughly enjoyed the show and I am so glad I saw it!

Last night I was able to go to the Radio City Christmas Spectacular! This is something I have always wanted to do for all the years that I have lived in New York.
The show was almost exactly how I expected - really fun and super cheesy! However, a little cheesiness is totally okay at the holidays in my book. Plus, I sure loved seeing the Rockette’s doing their famous kicks!
What a fun night!

Today I am remembering…
When B and I went to the Linkin Park concert at MSG and
HovaJay-Z came out at the end for the encore to sing with them.Best. Concert. Ever.
(True Confession Wednesday: The best part - right before it ended - Chester Bennington the lead singer of Linkin Park said you know you’ve made it when you sell out MSG in New York. He brought his parents on the stage and said “look around Mom, I made it” - I almost started crying I was so happy)

I won 6 free tickets to Gotham Comedy Club in Manhattan in Chelsea for Friday Dec 23rd for the 10:30pm show.
I however won’t be able to attend due to holiday stuff - so if anyone will be in New York that weekend and wants them, they are up for grabs - first comes first served. You don’t have to take all 6 - they are separated into 2’s, so it’s up to you how many you want.
Headliner is Jon Fisch from NBC’s Celebrity Apprentice, Last Comic Standing, and Comedy Central.

I saw Venus in Fur Saturday night. It’s staring Hugh Dancy (Claire Dane’s husband) and Nina Arainda.
I didn’t know a lot about what this show was about, but it was forward for Broadway - lots of lingerie, and cussing and swearing - however it’s an age old idea about Venus/Aphrodite and her effect on men or in this case - a man.
It was okay - it wasn’t fantastic but it was entertaning.

Last night B and I saw the Book Of Mormon on Broadway. It was written by Trey Parker, Robert Lopez, and Matt Stone who created South Park. This is actually the 2nd time I had seen it, but B hadn’t seen it before. It was even better than the first time! We spent the entire time cracking up! When intermission came both of us sort of looked at each other like - already?! We woke up this morning still talking about it.
So so so funny!

Today I saw Other Desert Cities on Broadway and it was awesome! Stacy Keach, Stockard Channing (hello Rizzo from Grease), Justin Kirk (hello Andy from Weeds), and Judith Light (Whose the boss!!) were all in it so the acting was amazing.
It was an amazing story, about a family shattering, coming together, and the relationships in between. Not knowing a ton about it when I went into it, I was surprised by the ending, and I think it made it that much better.
I truly enjoyed it, and was so glad I got to see it.

Saw Newsies on Broadway last night - it was great! It’s getting a ton of Tony noms - 8 including the one for Best Musical. Plus Jack Kelly was being played by the guy that played Tony in West Side Story - Jeremy Jordan, so it was pretty awesome to see him live.
They changed the story a bit from the movie, which my buddy LAEL was upset about, but it was still great, and they played King of New York perfectly so I was happy!
Overall it was great an entertaining and the dancing was amazing. So many gymnastics from these guys, leaps and twists, and aerial cartwheels, handsprings, flying toe touches, it was incredible!
Apparently President Obama was a block away so they totally shut down the theater district and Time Square, which was weird to see everything empty except police cars. We got stuck in the theater as they wouldn’t let us leave until he was out of the area, so the cast came out and did some question and answer after the show which was pretty funny. Most of the questions were from eager young women asking if the cast was single, or if they could get a kiss which was hilarious. These woman have a lot of chutzpah! Anyway, it was cool to see the cast as regular people and talk about what inspires them to sing and dance!

One of B’s birthday presents was tickets to a legit magic show - Chamber Magic at the Waldorf-Astoria. B is like a little kid, where he still loves magic.
Um, I am still thinking about it and was TOTALLY blown away. Steve Cohen is beyond a magician. He is a mind reader, he is a wizard, he is a conjurer. I can’t get over how amazing this was. I seriously have never seen anything like it, and if you are in New York you need to put this on your MUST do list ASAP!
I don’t even know how to explain it, except that if Houdini was alive today, he would probably be asking Steve Cohen how he did his tricks. If they were even tricks. Maybe he really is just magical.
